ONE FLESH

DEVOTIONAL
Text: Matthew 19 : 5 – 6 [AMP]

“He replied, have you never read that He who made them from the beginning made them male and female, And said, for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be united firmly (joined inseparably) to is wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate)"

I went into marriage not knowing much about the full demand for sex that lies therein. Subtle at the back of my mind, I had this erroneous belief that sex is carnal and lustful. So I gave my husband a tough time when it comes to love making. I really did not know the damage I was causing until the Holy Spirit sat me down one day and showed me Genesis 2 : 24.

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

The only activity that unites two bodies as one is sex. Sex is holy, sex is of God and originated from God. What the devil does is to make adulterated copies out of God’s original. He actually has nothing to offer. The devil took sex out of the beautiful package God had placed it (Marriage) and left it all naked on the streets. Sex is a spiritual exercise exclusively for married couples to be enjoyed not endured.  [Proverbs 5:16-20] Couples should find pleasure in sexual intimacy. It should not be taken casually.

"There is more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, 'The two become one.' Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever - the kind of sex that can never 'become one.' There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love,  for 'becoming one' with another. Or didn't you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don't you see that you can't live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body."
1 Corinthians 6:16-20 MSG.

Sex firmly unites couples. It should not be denied one another except with consent. [1 Corinthians 7: 1-5.] It should not happen outside marriage. That is abusing your body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Your body does not belong to you. Husbands and wives should understand their unique make up and accommodate one another sexually.

Prayer:
Lord I commit my sexual life into Your hands, heal me in Jesus mighty name. Deliver me from sexual temptations and sins. Let my sexual life glorify You and give me the grace to sexually satisfy my spouse in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

Is your sexual life healthy? Are you one flesh with your spouse or with another?
