Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh. Genesis 2 : 28 KJV

My sweet husband has this habit of not calling home unless I call first. He does not do this deliberately however. He is usually carried away by the demands of work.

There was a time his job took him away from home for four days. On the fourth day I started calling him in the morning as usual but he was not picking. There were pending issues I will like him to clarify so I started calling and got angry when there was no reply. When he finally called around 4pm I spoke harshly to him asking him if this was the right time for him to be calling me. He felt so bad and said, “you did not even ask what I have been up to.” That made me feel so bad. I felt selfish and very insensitive. I discovered I have not been one with him in my mind.

God’s expectation for us in marriage is to be one. One flesh, one body. We are no longer two but one. And since the body consists of the spirit and soul, we must be one in spirit and soul also.

Our soul is our thinking, feeling and emotional part. Husbands and wives need to study and understand their spouse’s thoughts feelings and emotions per time. We should always put ourselves in the other person’s shoes then will we be able to judge our spouse’s actions or inactions correctly. It’s a lot of work though but its worth it.  It makes for a successful home.

Prayer:
Lord make me sensitive to my spouse's feelings and emotions in Jesus name.

Determine not to quarrel again, instead try understanding your spouse's thoughts, feelings and emotions.
