TEXTS: EPHESIANS 5: 21 – 33 AMP, MATTHEW 7: 24 – 28 KJV
"But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit."
1 Corinthians 6: 17 KJV
Few years after we got married we started experiencing a lot of challenges
in our marriage. It got so bad I felt like running away. Not because I don’t
love my husband or kids but because the burden was just too heavy to bear.
Marriage is a spiritual union. The only spiritual force permitted to
influence and control marriage is that of God who ordained it. His Spirit must
reign supreme in the Home for it to be settled because Satan is always on the
move looking for homes to wreck. (1 Peter 5: 8)
Marriage signifies the union of Christ and His church and the man is
expected to be united to his wife and love her just as Christ loved the church
and gave His life for her. What this means is that the man must be ready to
live a life of total sacrificial giving just like Christ, irrespective of
the kind of woman his wife is. Now Eros cannot achieve this.
Only Agape love of God can. On the other hand the woman is expected to submit
to her husband in all things. I love the way the Amplified Bible described it.
It says the woman is to reverence her husband, notice him, regards him,
honors him, prefers him, venerates and esteems him, defers to him, praises him
and to love and admire him exceedingly! It takes God to be this kind of
woman irrespective of the kind of man the husband is.
Whether to be able to weather the storms of marriage (because there will
definitely be storms) or to be the type of spouse God wants you to be, you and
your spouse need to be one spirit with Christ the Solid Rock. (Deuteronomy 32:
30 – 31)
Prayer:
Oh Lord, be Lord over my home today. I command all storms to be still in
Jesus mighty name, that I and my spouse be one spirit in Christ in Jesus mighty
name. Amen.
How have you handled marital challenges prior till now. With or without
Christ?
