TEXT: Matthew 25:14-30 MSG
“Take the
thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this ‘play-it-safe’
who won’t go out on a limb. Throw him out into utter darkness.” Verses 28 – 30.
We all look
forward to God’s Kingdom at the end of days. Jesus in this story paints a
picture of what that Kingdom looks like. He said its like a man who embarked on
a long journey and left properties for his three servants. To better
understand this passage, let us liken this man to God, the properties he left
them represents our purpose, gifts or potentials and his three servants can be
liken to us, humans.
Just as this
man left properties for his servants, God has also given us different passions
and gifts to make the world a better place. God is yet to create somebody
without a potential. This man gave properties worth different amount to each of
his servants according to their abilities. The same God has given us different gifts
according to our abilities. And like this man in the passage, He expects us to
make profit with it.
While the
first and second servants went to work and doubled their master’s investment,
the third went and hid his own. Unlike his colleagues, he didn’t want to work.
He was lazy and idle, not willing to take risks. He lived a cautious life. He
probably must be afraid of losing his investments so he did not bother investing
at all.
Are you like
this third servant? Hiding your potentials? You know God has deposited potentials in your life. You
know that you have a passion burning in your heart. People have even pointed
out the fact that you are talented in one or two areas to you. But you keep
ignoring it. Instead of figuring out how to use your potentials you are
thinking of a million things that could go wrong if you venture into it thereby
limiting yourself, your dreams and passion. From the passage above it is
obvious that at the last days people like that will not find it funny. God has
created a beautiful earth for you, appointed you as His co-creator and
deposited in you potentials to do so. You have no excuse.
Prayer:
Oh Lord,
help me see that with you all things are possible. I remove my eyes from every distractions
and fears hindering me from pursuing my purpose here on earth. I receive boldness
to harness my God given potentials today in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
Start engaging
your potentials today.
