Early the next morning Jesus was returning to the city. He was hungry. Seeing a lone fig tree alongside the road, he approached it anticipating a breakfast of figs. When he got to the tree, there was nothing but fig leaves. He said, “No more figs from this tree—ever!” The fig tree withered on the spot, a dry stick. The disciples saw it happen. They rubbed their eyes, saying, “Did we really see this? A leafy tree one minute, a dry stick the next?” Matthew 21:18-20 MSG |
Have you
ever experienced any disappointments, hurts, pains, dashed expectations and
hope? If your answer is yes, then you are not alone. Our Lord Jesus Christ in
His might while here on earth also experienced all these things. How did Jesus deal
with His disappointment? Let’s learn from the Master.
It was
recorded in the above scripture that Jesus early one morning was hungry. He
needed to eat something. Upon siting a leafy Fig tree, Jesus began to have
hopes and expectations. He anticipated a breakfast of figs. But when He got to
the tree alas! There was a no fruit on it. Only leaves. Immediately Jesus did
something spectacular. He got angry. He got angry in the spirit. And with that
Holy anger, he declared, “No more figs from this tree ever!”
I now began
to wonder. Why was Jesus annoyed? Why did He take it so personal? Couldn’t He
have just walked away and look for something else to eat? Why was he angry? The
Fig tree is a type of tree that brings out its fruits before its leaves. So
when Jesus saw the leafy Fig tree, He was absolutely sure there will be fruits
on it. But the reverse was the case. That is why He got annoyed. “This was
not normal for Fig trees” He must have taught. This tree has a problem.
This tree is fruitless! And in Matthew 3:10 [AMP] the word of God says: “And
already the ax is lying at the root of the trees, every tree therefore that
does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire”. That was why
Jesus got angry. The tree was an abnormally. It had to go! And Jesus did not
spare it. He spoke to the tree authoritatively and it dried up ON THE SPOT! Can
you believe that?!! The disciples present with Jesus at this time were shocked
at the speed of which the tree dried up and exclaimed “Did we really see
this? A leafy tree one minute, a dry stick the next?! Matt 21: 20 [MSG]
Are you also
in the same shoes with Jesus at this point in time? Are your expectations cut
short? Are your hopes dashed? Are you hungry for one thing or the other which
is not forthcoming? Are you experiencing disappointments in one area of your
life or the other? Maybe by now you expected to have been married but you are
not even engaged. At your age you expected to have had all your children but
you are still believing God for the fruit of the womb. Or maybe you expected to
have entered into your rest financially but you are still struggling. Is it a
long standing illness? All your expectations and efforts at getting well were
all futile and you have now accepted the statusquo saying “it’s my fate. It’s
my cross, I will bear it”. No brother! No my sister! Do not accept the statusquo!
It’s not yours! Jesus did not accept any bad fate! Realizing the fact that this
situation was not normal, He got ANGRY IN THE SPIRIT! Instead of accepting the
statusquo, instead of learning to live with it, why not try Jesus’ approach?!!
Get angry in the spirit and with that Holy anger begin to make declarations
over that unfavourable situation just like Jesus did. Please note that your
tongue is a very powerful weapon. It can bring death or life depending on how
you use it. Proverbs 18:21 [NKJV] says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
So what are you waiting for? Snap out of that depression and
self pity and start SPEAKING LIFE! Talk to that situation like Jesus spoke to
the Fig tree. They sure can hear. If the Fig tree heard Jesus, then every
difficult situation or mountain can hear. So open your mouth and speak to it.
Speak out your desires and it will come to pass. Mark 11:23 [KJV] It is very important to note that this right belongs exclusively to those who have accepted Jesus Christ has their personal Lord and Saviour. Are you born again?
God wants all your hopes and
expectations realized. But the devil won’t let go without a fight. Resist the
Devil and he will flee from you. The New Living Translation [NLT] better drives
hope this point in James 4:7 “So let God work His will in you. Yell a loud
No!!! to the Devil and watch him scramper. (emphasis mine) Friends the
devil needs to be yelled at so open your mouth and yeeeeell!!!!!
Shalom.
Prayer
Dear Lord, I stand as your
son/daughter washed by the blood of Jesus and boldly declare that every tree of
disappointments, shame, pain, embarrassment, poverty, lack, sickness, barrenness,
backwardness, joblessness in my life dries up from the root in Jesus mighty name.
Amen!
Please send me you
testimonies. I believe you will see the mighty hand of God in action in your
life. Amen.
Shalom.
